Hello everyone and I hope all is well. My name is Lady Jay owner of Lady Jay EnterPrises’ gift shop located in Queens NY. I started my business in 1999 as an on/offline novelty gift shop selling all types of figurines, statues, crystal …..etc. With the market getting over saturated with home business owners selling the same things, the rise of 99$ stores and just me wanting to offer something new I decided to look into the candle industry. I must say I had no idea there were so many different kinds of candles and all of the toxic ingredients they contain. After lots of research I decided I wanted a candle product line that was much healthier, top quality, held their scent for longer then it took you to purchase it, actually smelled like the name it was called and affordable.
In 2002 I was introduced to a company called Scent-Sations which offers Mia Bella gourmet candles. At first when I received some sample votives from a distributor I really didn’t pay much attention to them and put them in a draw. As time passed, I looked at several other company’s products and after watching Scent-Sations’ growth not to mention their product’s quality for two 2yrs, I decided this was the company for me. I have been with this company since 2004 and wouldn’t change it for the world.
Currently we have over 80+ scents of our signature gourmet candles that are made with a natural veggie wax, double cotton wicked, scented throw out the candle, is virtually soot free and best of all if the scent is called “Hot Apple Pie”…..guess what it actually smells that way when you are burning it. We also carry bath products, novelty candles and offer a candle of the month program where you can experience a new scent each month. It’s been over 4years now since becoming a distributor of Scent-Sations and I must say the company, my SS family members whether on my team or in another group and the products always amaze me. I think my biggest accomplishment as a business owner was NOT GIVING UP in myself, when times were bad, the NAY SAYERS said it won’t work, the days when I told myself I couldn’t do it or the many times someone told me no. Not giving up and believing in myself, this awesome company and the products is why I tell everyone looking to start a business or already has a business, but just having a rough time with it at the moment…….DON’T GIVE UP it just a passing moment the rewards only come to those that finish that long walk toward the light at the end of the tunnel. Focus on what motivates you to keep going. I know for me it’s seeing a smile on my customer’s face or hearing their excitement after purchasing something from my gift shop. Tomoka’s Twists are functional hair accessories designed to create updos for women wearing highly textured hair or dreadlocks. They are crafted to be comfortable, hair friendly – meaning no snagging, flexible for maximum creativity, and of course fashionable.
I decided to start making Tomoka’s Twists for the desires of the growing numbers of women embracing their natural hair to adorn their crowns. There are not alot of accessories that cater to the needs of these unique women. Also, I felt obligated to share a hair accessory that worked for me.
What’s in a name? I believe a business name should be as unique as the product. My real name is very common as well as my internet name. When people asked how to use Tomoka’s Twists, I would tell them to pull their hair up with it and just twist it. I knew Twists would be a key part of the name. I also thought about acronyms because people tend to shorten product names and websites and I wanted the shortened version of the name to be cute like TT which rhymes with my real name. My sister’s middle name is Tomoka which is truly orginal. Yet, like my sister who used Tomoka as her name growing up, I’ve seen it spelled so many ways. It doesn’t bother me at all. I never correct them because I know they are talking about Tomoka’s Twists.
My long term vision is that all women with kinky, coily, curly hair and all types of dreadlocks will have at least one. I am always thinking of inivative designs. If anyone out there is a welder or good with molding metal, please let me know! I would like try my hand at making lampwork glass beads or clay beads. My ultimate goal is to see Whoopi wear a Tomoka’s Twists.

Serah’s is an online bath and body company that was established in 2008 by Lisa Aiken based in Santa Barbara, CA. Serah’s combines beauty with high quality natural ingredients creating soaps that are not only aesthetically pleasing to the eye but also arousing to the nose.
Creating her decorative handmade soaps began as a hobby for Lisa in her quest to find pure and natural ingredients to use on her skin. My Review of Neosoul Essential products;
I met Cee Cee, the owner of Neosoul Essential products about a year ago on the Black Business Women On-line Network. Cee Cee and I were both on the network getting the word out about our businesses. There is a group created on the network in which myself and Cee Cee joined. The group is called “Buy Black Collective”. It is a group which allows African American Women to support one anothers businesses. Every week, one or more businesses are featured and the members of the group provide their support to the featured businesses. One can support these businesses by purchasing products, featuring the business on their website, doing a link exchange, etc. This is how I was introduced to Cee Cee’s business and her products. I ended up ordering a couple products, just to try them out. Well, once I received my order, there was no turning back for me. I was hooked(lol).
Some of the products I ordered included the Sensuality and Lavender Body Oil Mist. I love putting these products on right after a bath or shower. I smell good and feel so fresh. I then ordered two of the Shea Butter Lotion Bars – Mango Sunrise and Lemongrass. These are not my words, but I’ve been told by many that I smell like “sweet candy”(lol). Then my friend Cee Cee had to include a sample of her megamix whip in the box. Yes, you guessed it, I was hooked. It’s so soft and gentle on the skin, I had to order for my niece since she has really bad eczema. I talked to my brother the other day and he informed me that the megamix is softning my nieces skin a great deal.
